I recently watched one of the Unlock Your Creative Genius discussions with Rosine, and learned about a new form of exercise that not only gives your body a workout, but your brain as well! The exercises are called Brain Gym, and are founded on the idea that crossing the body's meridian in a variety of active ways will help the brain to form new neuro-pathways to produce faster and more effective learning andmemory retention. These exercises also help to bring the right and left sides of the brain into a more balanced place. This is especially great for someone like me, because I have always considered myself to be very right-brained and lacking in many of the more left-brained qualities. I also have a brain injury from a car wreck I was in many years ago. After that event, the polarity between my right and left brain seemed to become even more pronounced.
The data collected from school kids who do brain gym exercises is very impressive. These exercises have helped poor students pass exams with flying colors, and even helps pronounced dyslexics learn to read and write. I am looking for ways to feel more youthful, and my brain seems like a good place to start! (Since thoughts create, I will go to the source for planting seeds of youthfulness, flexibility and energy.)
So far, I have been doing these almost daily for 2 weeks or so. I don't necessarily feel any smarter...but I do feel a bit more balanced. (they say it takes a few weeks to really feel the difference) I get a nice energy boost after these exercises which seems to help the writing to flow out of me easily.
Here's a quick 5 minute brain gym workout for you to try if you are interested:
